Taipei Arena is located on the corner of Dunhua North Road and Nanjing East Road in downtown Taipei. Taipei City Government tore down the old Taipei baseball stadium in 2000 and built Taipei Arena on the site. This arena had its grand opening on Dec. 12, 2005 and was named "Taipei Arena".
This Arena is the most modern sports facility so far in the whole Taipei City. It consists of one main pitch with a net dimension of 80m×40m (3,200M2) with all the telescopic platforms retracted. It can accommodate major international sport events such as ice skating, ice hockey, gymnastics, hand ball, basketball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, indoor soccer, boxing, judo, karate, tae kwon do, and wrestling.
The excellent acoustic design makes this Arena a perfect venue for high quality cultural performances, concerts, and other non-sport events. The enormous suspension capacity of the ceiling, accessible by lighting decks and catwalks make the production easier and more economical. The lighting system of Taipei Arena is very flexible and can be easily customized for different events. This facility is designed with efficient ancillary spaces which provide ample private/restricted spaces (rooms) for performers and athletes. Strategically-located ramps and loading docks ensure easy access for container trucks, which reduces preparation time and cost.
This HRC building with 5 stories above ground and 2 stories underground has a total floor area of over 88,000 square meters. Telescopic platforms can be configured in many different ways to meet the needs of individual events. The seating capacity varies according to the type of event, with 15,350 for center-stage concerts and basketball events, 13,500 for end-stage concerts and large assemblies, and 10,000 for performances. There are also 48 suites with a total of 695 seats in the upper bowl.
With a grand stand of 800 seats, the sub-hall has an Olympic-size ice rink measuring of 61m×30m, which can be used to host ice skating, figure skating and ice hockey events all the year round. This rink is also open to general public for ice sports and entertainments.
Taipei Arena has over 6,000 square meters of food kiosks and shops. The outdoors plaza offers a good space for promotional activities.
